DISTRIBUTION RESEARCH - TRADITIONAL DISTRIBUTION
TRADITIONAL DISTRIBUTION
Magazines try to keep up in the top management loop because it will in turn affect their overall operations. These companies do three major things when it comes to distribution; getting the product from the manufacturing point to the end customer, controlling costs and saving as much time as possible, and being able to build a competitive advantage through distribution.
Their are two main types of distribution
1) INDIRECT DISTRIBUTION - when the product reached the end customer through a number of channels in between, making a long chain.
2) DIRECT DISTRIBUTION - when the company either directly sends the product to end customer or when the channel length isn't as long or less long.
Some other forms of distribution can include the following
1) INTENSIVE DISTRIBUTION - which is when the company is mass marketing a product, this form makes it possible to cover as much of the market as it can.
2) SELECTIVE DISTRIBUTION - limited outlets, for example Armani in an urban city might only have 2-3 outlets where you can purchase their product.
3) EXCLUSIVE DISTRIBUTION - When a company wants to give a big region to one distributor.
HOW I WOULD UTILIZE THIS MODEL TO DISTRIBUTE MY PRODUCT
Because my audience is younger and more hip people, I would try and utilize the indirect distribution. By having my magazine be in a few different places all around the downtown areas. By utilizing skate parks, art museums, and coffee house to sell my magazine.
